This anti-thinning shampoo has over 6,000 five star reviews on Amazon

When it comes to finding a new beauty product—be it a shampoo, cleansing oil or serum—online retailers are a wealth of knowledge. Why? Well, thanks to the review sections of Amazon, Adore Beauty and the like, it’s never been easier to find out what other consumers are loving—and hating, too, for that matter. Recently, Pura D’or Original Gold Label Anti-Thinning Shampoo ($43 at Amazon) has emerged as a crowd favourite on the Amazon US site.

The anti-thinning hair shampoo has been reviewed over 10,000 times—and of those reviews, over 6,000 of them are five star. Furthermore, the Pura D’or Original Gold Label Anti-Thinning Shampoo received another 1,600 four star reviews. That’s pretty impressive, no?

While the shampoo claims to thicken hair and slow down hair loss, consumer feedback is mixed. Some, including Amazon user TT, noticed less hair fall out in the shower, “The product itself is good, I did notice less fall outs… But saw no thickening effect at all.” Interestingly, some consumers found the opposite. Amazon user Terry Loscalzo left a five star review, saying, “This shampoo and conditioner has improved the texture and appearance of my hair 1,000 per cent. My hair looks shiny and healthy, and has more volume.”

How does it work? Key ingredient biotin has been touted as an essential nutrient for hair growth for years. In addition to that, Pura D’or Original Gold Label Anti-Thinning Shampoo contains cedarwood bark oil: an essential oil that apparently simulates the hair follicle by increasing circulation to the scalp. Plus, there’s argan oil (for smoothing) and rosemary leaf oil (for shine).

Dermatologist Heidi Waldorf, of MD Waldorf Dermatology Aesthetics, is sceptical of the brand’s claims. “There is no evidence that these ingredients, applied topically, can improve hair growth,” she told InStyle.com. “However, using a shampoo with gentler surfactants, the cleaning and foaming agents, and including ingredients that add moisture and flexibility to the hair shaft can make the hair shaft stronger and more supple, and thereby reduce breakage.”

No matter which way you look at it, over 6,000 positive Amazon reviews is impressive. If you’re looking for a solution to thinning hair, the Pura D’or Original Gold Label Anti-Thinning Shampoo might be worth a shot.
