Cover girls Monica Tomas and Radhika Nair tell us how they stay fit
Bikini bodies take a lot of work. (Or so we imagine.) We asked our cover girls, Monica Tomas and Radhika Nair how they do it. Take notes:
What’s your exercise routine like?
Monica Tomas: “I never skip the gym. I spend at least an hour-and-half every day alternating between cardio and weight training.”
Radhika Nair: “I was born with genes that defy food. Though I exercise regularly, I don’t enjoy the gym. I love to travel though, not luxurious holidays but the real deal – exploring, trekking, and walking for hours discovering a new city. It keeps me happy and healthy. Routine is not for me.”
Tell us about your diet.
MT: “Portion control and balanced meals do the trick for me. I love having home-cooked meals. Also, I stay away from carbs as much as I can.”
RN: “I don’t enjoy eating junk food as much as I enjoy healthy, clean and green meals.”
When it comes to fitness, what’s the one thing you don’t compromise on?
MT: “I get up and get going, no matter what!”
RN: “I never compromise on sleep. It really works.”
What’s the one new and exciting fitness mantra you learned recently?
MT: “It’s not a new mantra, but I’ve been meaning to take a break from the gym, and go swimming. That’s something I’m excited about. Swimming is great.”
RN: “Stretching your body does wonders. What’s amazing is that it can be done at home, saves you a lot of injuries and just makes you breathe better. I learnt it from my roommate (model Dayana Erappa) and I follow a few yogis on Instagram as well.”
What do you workout to?
MT: “I’m more of a visual person – more YouTube how-tos for me. I find it makes working out much easier.”
RN: “That would be Gesaffelstein at the moment.”
One place you recommend for a good, healthy meal?
MT: “The Green House (in Mumbai) has some good nutritious food.”
RN: “Bombay Salad Co., but I usually eat at home and cook my own meals.”
A cheat meal for you is…
MT: “Rice, rice, rice! Will choose rice over anything.”
RN: “A Kerala-style fish curry meal served with tapioca would be it.”
