9 Bollywood star siblings who chose to stay away from the limelight

How well do you know the lives of your favourite Bollywood stars?

Not everyone can handle the heady drama that Bollywood is so well known for. Whether it’s being under the constant glare of the paparazzi or eluding the frenzied fans, being famous comes with its own perils. Perhaps that’s why these Bollywood star siblings chose to stay away from the limelight. But that doesn’t go to say that they haven’t experimented with the silver screen — Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s elder brother, Aditya Rai, tried his hand at producing a movie Dil Ka Rishta in 2003, but the film didn’t work at the box office.

Meanwhile, others have found their own calling in areas far away from acting, where they are relishing in their self-created glory — Deepika Padukone’s younger sister, Anisha Padukone, is an accomplished golf player, and comes under the top 10 golfers in the country. Now isn’t that a fabulous success story?

Explore our list of 9 lesser-known siblings of your favourite movie stars who are paving their career in fields other than acting.

9 Bollywood star siblings who’re making waves in their own right:

Anushka and Karnesh Sharma

Anushka's older brother Karnesh used to sail in the merchant navy before he switched to producing films. The duo have together founded the production company, Clean Slate Films, with NH10 (2015) being their first-ever production. "While sailing, the only form of entertainment for us used to be movies. So, I’ve always been interested in movies, and now with her (Anushka) being in the industry, I’m more in tune with the process," he was quoted as saying in an interview. Anushka calls him her "best friend", which explains their strong working relationship.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Aditya Rai

Aishwarya introduced her elder brother, Aditya, to her field of work, but he wasn't able to garner the same amount of attention that his sister held in the industry. After producing Dil Ka Rishta (2003) that starred Arjun Rampal and Aishwarya herself, Aditya went back to his original profession — working as an engineer in the merchant navy.

Arjun and Anshula Kapoor

Arjun's younger sister, Anshula, decided to steer clear of the movie industry despite having film producer Boney Kapoor as her father. Instead, she chose to excel in academics — the Kapoor girl has graduated from Barnard College, Columbia University in New York. Arjun once said in an interview that Anshula had no interest in acting. “This is good for me at a selfish level, as she is my audience. When I talk to her, I get a sense of what people like to watch in theatres. She is the first point of contact for me, when it comes to giving the script," he said.

Deepika and Anisha Padukone

Deepika's sister, Anisha, may not have followed her sister into the glamor industry, but the girl has proven her worth in golf, where she comes under the top 10 golfers in the country. "My sister is at a different stage in her career, while I'm just starting out; I'm still an amateur. The only thing I can focus on is trying to get better and play well. It's good that I have role models within the family but I don't try to emulate them. I'm just trying to excel in my own way," she once said in an interview.

Katrina Kaif and her sisters

Katrina Kaif has six sisters: Natasha, Sonia, Isabelle, Mellisa, Sarah, Christina and a brother, Michael. Though she shares a close bond with all of them, it is only her younger sibling Isabelle who has followed Katrina into her star-studded world. Isabelle has worked as a model and an actress, and has recently been chosen as the face of cosmetics giant, Lakmé.

Parineeti, Sahaj and Shivang Chopra

Parineeti has two younger brothers, Sahaj and Shivang. In an Instagram post, the actress revealed more about her relationship with her brothers: "Dear Sahaj and Shivang, I don't know when the both of you grew up. Weren't you tiny babies in my arms just yesterday? I don't know when it changed from me taking care of you to you taking care of me. I don't know when you became my friends. I just know one thing - that my life is nothing without both of you. There will come a day when I get married and have kids of my own with another man, but you will always be my first loves."

Priyanka and Siddharth Chopra

Alia and Shaheen Bhatt

Alia Bhatt's sister Shaheen may not have found her calling as easily as her younger sister did, and the reason for it could be the depression that the 29-year-old was battling for much of her adult life. Not shying away from critics, she bravely opened up about her struggle in an Instagram post to spread awareness. “One minute everything's fine and the next it's like someone turned the light off inside my head,” she said.

Ranveer Singh and Ritika Bhavnani

Ranveer's elder sister, Ritika, has been like a second mother to the actor, preferring to support his endeavours from the sideline. Ranveer, who fondly calls her didi, has openly showed his affection for her on his Instagram account with throwback photos of their childhood.
