Pastel shades. Metallic elements. Intricate embroideries. The runway at Lakme Fashion Week was buzzing with beautiful bridal lehengas — the ones you immediately envision yourself wearing. Some of this season’s leading fashion trends were incorporated as well — blouses with exaggerated sleeves; statement belts; bows adorning the backs of barely-there cholis.
From fuchsia and tangerine to powder blue and beige, every colour sans vermillion was paid homage to this season, proving that designers are veering away from the trend of wearing traditional red for a wedding. Designers like Payal Singhal, SVA by Sonam and Paras Modi and Shantanu and Nikhil added playful elements like capes, trailing trains and flounce sleeves respectively. Meanwhile, Anamika Khanna introduced feathers; Jayanti Reddy experimented with ruffles; Tarun Tahiliani put his best foot forward with heavily embellished lehenga sets in metallic colours; Anita Dongre showed us what a summer garden wedding looks like with dainty floral lehengas paired with matching crowns.
