In the seasonal quest for a new fashion obsession, Christopher Bailey has emerged as the winner of Fall/Winter 2017 so far. The fashion director of Burberry is aware that the idea of athleisure is still too seductive to ignore, but challenged himself to go beyond the obvious skirts-with-skirts styling tropes.
At first glance, the sculptural dresses he sent down the London Fashion Week runway seemed desirable enough. It’s only when FRowers realised these were ‘sweatshirt dresses, the uptown cousin of your workout staple, that Insta-fingers started furiously tapping out their approval.
There were one-shoulder versions for showing off sculpted collar bones and cutout styles for hinting at ripped abs (or underboob, if you’re so inclined). Dramatic sleeves and knit detailing ensured these won’t be mistaken for your boyfriend’s oversized hand-me-downs.
