Burberry’s new festive campaign film celebrates its 160th anniversary

Luxury brand Burberry has released a three-minute long film ‘The Tale of Thomas Burberry’ in order to kick off their festive campaign and celebrate the completion of 160 years. The film, written by Matt Charman and directed by Asif Kapadia, reimagines the key moments that have shaped the label’s history.

Harry Potter actor Domhnall Gleeson stars as founder Thomas Burberry, with Sienna Miller playing his fictional love interest. The movie captures several real life moments, along with some fictionalised ones, including the invention of the waterproof fabric gabardine, dressing the military and outfitting polar explorers and pilots. The movie plays out like a trailer and it is so riveting that you actually want to watch the non-existent full feature film. It has the requisites of a full fledged drama, with passionate romance, inspiring discoveries, heartbreak and adventure, all the while keeping in mind the label’s intrinsic values and aesthetic.

“The film we have made is a brief glimpse inspired by his full and extraordinary life, which threaded its way through the history of the twentieth century in all its tumultuous highs and lows,” says Burberry Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer Christopher Bailey.

We’re particularly in love with the shot of Sienna Miller riding away on a horse, with a classic Burberry checked scarf billowing behind her!
