Celebrating ‘Year of the Dog’ with Dashanzi at the JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu

Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year, is one of the most celebrated events across the globe. Symbolising good luck, prosperity and joy, the land of the Orient is decked up in shades of red. Adding to this festive spree is a variety of traditional culinary delights engulfed with the aroma of sautéed spices. Paying homage to this rich culture driven by animal zodiac and ancient mythology, JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu’s progressive modern Asian cuisine restaurant – Dashanzi introduces an exclusive celebratory menu. Marking the year of the dog, the menu is an exquisite curation by Chef Cheang Chee Leong, where each handpicked ingredient signifies the origin of the delicacy.

The selection of delicacies date back to archaic Chinese preparations which are known to bring in good luck and fortune. With 19 dishes, each in resonance with the customs and traditions of the Asian province, the gastronomic line-up boasts of preparations marinated and hand-crafted in homemade sauces and aromatic spices. Emphasizing on the ingredients, Chef Leong has chosen recipes originating from Chinese mythology – such as the whole fish that stands for abundance, and symbolises wealth and growth when served as a meal, while the eggplant denotes prosperity

The lavish feast unfolds an extensive spread of hors d’oeuvres like Jiao Zi Chicken, Lamb and Vegetable Dumplings, Crispy Chicken Tossed with Sesame Peanut Sauce, Wok-Fried Morel Mushroom with Prawn, Wok-Fried Egg Plant with Cumin & Spring Onion and many more mouth-watering delights. While the main course ranges from Stir-Fried Scallopwith Asparagus XO Sauce, Steamed Pork Belly with garlic, fragrant Chilly & Rice Vinegar amongst many more.  Vegetarians are in for a pleasant surprise as they dig into delish preparations like the Stir- Fried Pumpkin & Shimeji Mushroom, Braised Tofu with Asparagus & Shiitake, Wok-Fried Glass Noodle with Mushroom & Bamboo Shoot in Dou Ban Jiang and the signature Wok-Fried Hakka Noodle with Bean Sprouts, Shiitake & Chinese Chives.

Rounding-off the chef’s delectable reveries, mixologist, Benson Varghese spins off a selection of fine cocktails, each inspired by the five elements of nature that is – Earth, Water, Fire, Wood and Metal. These cocktails created to ring in the New Year comprise of ingredients infused into the ice cubes, which make for a visual delight. So come join in the celebrations and bring in the cheer as you sip on some of the sumptuous concoctions, specially crafted for the occasion.
