The trailer of Deepika Padukone’s upcoming movie, Chhapaak, was released today and the internet is full of praise. The Meghna Gulzar-directed film is based on the real-life story of acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal who was subjected to this heinous crime at the age of 15. Deepika’s commitment towards the much-awaited film goes beyond just portraying the brave character on screen as she also turned producer for the story.
The trailer paints a poignant portrait of the protagonist Malti and follows her journey as she strives to show strength in the face of this life-altering hate crime that takes place in broad daylight. During the initial launch of the film poster, Deepika said, “The character will stay with me forever.”

Not only did Deepika become overwhelmed and teary-eyed during the press launch, she wrote a heartfelt Instagram post today: “Rarely do you come across a story where you do not need an entire narration to decide if you want to be a part of a film or not. What is even more rare is to not be able to articulate and put into words what you feel for the film and its journey. Chhapaak is all of that and more for me.”
