Deepika Padukone Ranveer Singh wedding: What went down at the mehendi and sangeet

The couple du jour, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, kicked off their wedding celebrations on November 12 in Italy with a ring ceremony. Dressed in a dapper black suit, Ranveer went down on one knee and declared his love for the bride-to-be (who chose a white ensemble for the occasion) against the stunning backdrop of Lake Como, say reports. Love was, well and truly, in the air and Deepika was so moved by the gesture that a few happy tears were shed.

The couple invited singers Shubha Mudgal and Harshdeep Kaur to perform at the sangeet that was held the same day, as the guests (only family and close friends are present) joined in in celebrating with the happy couple. Popular songs like London Thumakda and Tune Maari Entriyaan were also played, according to media reports.

So far, Deepika and Ranveer have not shared pictures of their outfits or the ceremonies and since security is pretty tight — guests’ cellphone cameras were being blocked by stickers, special wrist bands were required at the gates, and unique QR codes were scanned to ascertain identity — we’re basically waiting with bated breath for a glimpse of the festivities.

The duo is now gearing up for the two traditional wedding ceremonies, a Konkani function and an Anand Karaj ceremony in accordance to Sikh customs. The celebrations are taking place at Villa del Balbianello resort, with lush green mountains and a serene lake surrounding it.

Last week, Deepika’s family held a Nandi Puja at their Bengaluru residence while Ranveer’s family hosted a haldi ceremony. For the pooja, Deepika chose a saffron kurta and dupatta that her stylist, Shaleena Nathani, paired with cream pants and statement jhumkas, all by Sabyasachi.
