Out of all the things you do in a day, thinking of a new outfit every morning can be the most time-consuming of them all. This is especially true when you want to look put-together for your day-to-day affairs, work emails have started pouring into your inbox and time is not by your side. To solve this age-old problem, ELLE and DLF Mall of India, Noida, decided to station ELLE’s Junior Fashion Editor, Samar Rajput, to help those who need it.
Out of everyone who put in a request on ELLE’s social media, eight people of varied age-groups, sizes and professions were selected and Samar then stepped in to guide them for their fashion fix-me-ups. “The participants were between 21-48 years. Some of them were petite, some were athletic and others were curvy. So creatively, it was quite fun. We visited stores like Diesel, Brooks Brothers, Thomas Pink, United Colors of Benetton, Vero Moda, and many others,” said Samar.
The fact that DLF Mall of India, the country’s largest mall is only 20 minutes from South Delhi via the Delhi-Noida-Delhi (DND) flyover, only made things easier for the participants. Plus, having 380 international and Indian boutique brands to choose from at the iconic 7-storey shopping hub made Samar’s task not only simpler but extremely exciting. And, the hip fashion stores let him pick ensembles that were versatile, arty, eye-catching and Instagram-worthy.
“One of the most interesting tasks was to style a 35-year-old HR professional. She was curvy and was used to wearing only neutral colours. However, I asked her to choose a vibrant capelet over a beautiful net dress. In fact, she bought the dress later and wanted to wear it for a Christmas party. The next styling appointment was with a man who was in the real estate sector. His daily job required him to attend a lot of meetings, so I styled him in a way that let him be comfortable yet professional. The idea was for people to step out of their comfort zone,” explained Samar.
The response for the two-day styling appointment was overwhelming and Samar was able to provide a nudge to all those who were too afraid to experiment with their style earlier. The brands at DLF Mall of India offered ensembles which were classic, cool and contemporary; and this, in turn, made the whole experience gratifying. If you’ve missed out on this one-of-a-kind opportunity, do not worry. You can still head to the mall and spend a leisurely day shopping at your favourite fashion outlets. Trust us, you won’t regret it.
