The 13 Going On 30 star lets us in on her make-up routine, beauty advice, wellness secrets and more.
ELLE: When do you hit the sack?
Jennifer Garner (JG): As early as possible after getting my kids to bed – 10 pm? 9.30 pm, if I’m lucky.
ELLE: And when do you wake up?
JG: 5.15 am.
ELLE: What do you eat for breakfast?
JG: It’s usually oatmeal or avocado toast and some tea.
ELLE: The first thing that passes your lips?
JG: Black coffee.
ELLE: The last thing that passes your lips?
JG: Spearmint tea.

ELLE: What’s your everyday make-up routine?
JG: Takes me four minutes. I use concealer, Chanel Stylo Sourcils Waterproof Defining Longwear Eyebrow Pencil, Stila Convertible Color blush on my cheeks and Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Lip Care.
ELLE: Tell us about your fitness regimen.
JG: It’s a mix: dance cardio and a weights regime by Simone de la Rue. I try to box at least once a week, too.
ELLE: How do you deal with stress?
JG: Working out and laughing with my friends. As well as cooking or baking, it helps to write down how I’m feeling. Oh, and going to church.
ELLE: What’s your biggest beauty find?
JG: Less is more when it comes to make-up.
ELLE: When you look in the mirror, what do you see?
JG: My skin. I like to check it first to see if it’s looking healthy. I try not to look in the mirror very much – it’s easier not to pick myself apart if I’m not focused on it.

ELLE: When do you feel the happiest?
JG: Having a plan, even when it’s hard. Being in a community with other people makes me happy.
ELLE: When do you feel the saddest?
JG: Focusing on the world’s problems without finding a way to be part of the solution. I try to be a piece in the puzzle.
ELLE: What was the last beauty item that you bought?
JG: Cryo Sticks. They’re metal tools that you keep in the fridge and use to massage your face to soothe skin and promote blood flow.
ELLE: What is your fridge filled with?
JG: Almond pulp from making almond milk. I always have baking basics in there too: butter and milk. And good cheese. I love a good cheese.
ELLE: What does your body mean to you?
JG: It is essential. We have to use it or lose it, so I keep up the hard workouts. I’m grateful to my body for keeping going.
ELLE: Tell us about your biggest beauty indulgence.
JG: 20 years of facials by Nerida Joy. She knows everything about skin, so I trust her.
ELLE: What’s the best beauty advice you’ve received?
JG: Virtue hair care is a game-changer. I use a mask once a week in winter and when I’m working and using heat on my hair. People focus on using a mask or moisturiser on their face but forget that their hair needs the same kind of love.
ELLE: What was your last beauty treatment?
JG: Having my nails done at work. I haven’t done a lot of kooky treatments!
