Best skincare tips from ELLE Editors
Forgoing a soapy face wash for a non-foaming cleanser has been one of the toughest changes in my skincare routine. I’m so accustomed to suds and that squeaky clean feeling that the first few times washing my face after I made the switch, I wasn’t even sure it was working. But I’ve to come to realise that it’s one of the best way to cleanse my face without aggravating sensitive skin.
I love routines and that reflects in my skincare regime. Night time is when the real game begins… a 3-step cleansing process, mainly to remove the dust, grime and pollution since I don't wear much make-up. I start with soaking cotton pads in Bioderma Crealine and wiping off the traces of dirt from the skin. I am a lover of oils, be it face, hair or body. The Shu Uemura cleansing oil is a complete game-changer. It foams up when it comes into contact with water, while being gentle on the skin.
Extreme photosensitivity is one of the worst things to happen to a beach bum. But I've learnt to balance my skin karma by ensuring there's always a healthy layer of sunscreen between me and the sun. With skincare products, cheap isn't always cheerful, which is why I stick to French pharmaceutical brands like Avène, La Roche-Posay and Ducray. My bank account may complain, but my skin doesn't.
The one skincare habit I've not changed ever since I understood the meaning of skincare is to use as few products as I can on my face. I remember my grandmother drilling the importance of finding one product that suits your skin type and never letting it go. So my everyday skincare routine is a two-step process involving a Dove face wash (that I have been using forever) and the God sent Vichy Aqualia Thermal Light face cream.
I’m usually iffy about face packs, (thanks to the fear of smearing, as well as constant ribbing from my younger brother) but even I can’t deny this genius concoction: Heat one tablespoon of poppy seeds in water for five minutes. Add a handful of powdered almonds and one tablespoon coconut milk. Cook until dry. Once cooled, apply religiously for a week and your skin will thank you with that lit-from-within glow.
Investing in a primer was the best thing I could do for my make-up routine. It smoothens out my skin, which makes my liquid foundation look more evened out. Plus, your whole make up stays on a whole lot longer, even through a night of dancing. L’Oreal’s Base Magique Primer is my go-to for a matte look while Becca’s Backlight Priming Filter is just right for days when I want that dewy look like Kim K.
