Husn-e-Taa’iraat, or “beauty of a bird,” was the theme of Rohit Bal’s AICW 2015 collection. The show, soundtracked by classical European compositions, featured models in voluminous lehenga skirts and structured sherwani jackets. The pieces were detailed with Persian embroidery, which was an ode to the natural world – florals, numerous long-tailed birds, and even elephants and camels. Models wore clusters of white, red, or black roses around their necks and heads, adding to the dramatic and regal effect of the couture – the white rose collars in particular were reminiscent of Shakespearean ruffs. Bal had his models swirl and kneel to audience members. He was his typical showman self, dancing bowing extravagantly at the end of the show.
