At the ELLE Beauty Weekender presented by Tata CLiQ, we are celebrating all things beauty with Priyanka Ganjoo. With a background in helping indie beauty brands establish and grow, Priyanka grew tired of the lack of inclusivity for South Asian women. Looking for a brand that would put these women at the centre of its narrative, she left the corporate beauty industry to create her own company, Kulfi Beauty, which brings celebration into beauty with fun and approachable products. Ahead of her participation at the three-day virtual event, find out her answers to our quick rapid fire.
ELLE: What does beauty mean to you?
Priyanka Ganjoo (PG): Beauty, to me, is shared storytelling. It’s what we tell ourselves and tell each other. At Kulfi, we focus on sharing stories of South Asians uplifting and celebrating themselves and each other. As these stories get shared, I hope that they change the narrative around beauty.
ELLE: A beauty advice you would give to your 16-year-old self?
PG: I would tell my 16-year-old self that she is beautiful. She can be who she wants to be when she grows up, and she doesn’t need to let society or the male gaze determine her self-worth.
ELLE: What do you see when you look in the mirror?
PG: A Tiger Queen. I created our kajal shade Tiger Queen to really channel that energy of feeling your best, most empowered self.
ELLE: Your beauty obsession?
PG: Kulfi kajal eyeliners, of course! I’m also obsessed with blush. It instantly makes me happy.
ELLE: A beauty tip you would pass down to your children.
PG: Define beauty for yourself. Looking at beauty in different contexts: in art, film, through history, across cultures can help you examine why something is beautiful to you.
