#ELLEBeautyWeekender: Q/A With Priyanka Borkar

At the ELLE Beauty Weekender presented by Tata CliQ, we are celebrating all things beauty and hair with Priyanka Borkar. The ace hair and makeup artist has worked on multiple Bollywood celebrities in the past alongside managing her mom’s Beyond Beauty salon in Mumbai. Ahead of her participation at the three-day virtual event, join us in a rapid-fire with Priyanka.  

ELLE: What are some hair wash hacks that one can implement to prevent frizzy hair?

Priyanka Borkar (PB): Firstly, wait till your hair is completely greasy before washing.  Secondly, it’s best to avoid hot water, but if you use it, make sure you rinse off the conditioner with cold water. This closes the cuticles. Lastly, always apply the shampoo on the scalp and massage slowly (one does not need to apply it on their mid-lengths and ends).

ELLE: Five hair accessories/hairstyles you foresee gaining momentum in Fall 2021?

PB: The biggest winner this year is bangs! Curtain bangs, baby bangs, thick blunt bangs – it’s all coming back and is huge right now. I also feel like turbans, hair bands, oversized scrunchies and lots of hats work too.

ELLE: Could you give us one hair care hack that was a game-changer for your hair?

PB: Using sulphate-free shampoos has really changed my hair game! Also, despite the stink, applying onion juice on the scalp before a wash once a week really helps in reducing your hair fall.

ELLE: A haircare myth that you hear a lot but is not true?

PB: I have a few, actually.

– Cutting your hair will make it grow faster – no, it won’t.

– Dry shampoo is the same as regular shampoo – no dry shampoo isn’t a substitute for shampoo.

– Don’t condition if you have oily hair  – one must condition your hair no matter what hair type you have. The amount of conditioner used can definitely vary, but we have to use conditioner!
