Almost ten years after its Milan debut, the Fendi Peekaboo bag continues to reinvent itself. With a motive to bring the iconic ‘it’ bag back into the spotlight, the atelier announced the second wave of its video campaign, #MeAndMyPeekaboo, in December 2018, in which several female icons recount their relationship with timeless bag.
In the years since, the playfully named Peekaboo handbag became a design icon to cherish and its popularity has grown exponentially. From a micro size to a large, the bag comes in various sizes, colours and patterns. The #MeAndMyPeekaboo campaign showcases a variety of Peekaboo styles, including the Peekaboo Essentially, the Peekaboo X-Lite for Man and the newest Peekaboo versions from the SS19 Fendi Women’s fashion show, tying the separate bag styles together through the bonds of families.
For #MeAndMyPeekaboo Chapter 2, chairwoman of Esquel Group, Marjorie Yang, comes together with daughter and Chinese businesswoman, Dee Poon at her cherished Hong kong house. Celebrating the bond between mother daughter, in an exclusive chat with us, the duo reminisce their Fendi heritage bags, intimate memories and more.
ELLE: Use one word to describe each other.
Dee Poon: Amazing!
Marjorie Yang: Dee is a tiny version of myself, when I want to make fun of her I call her Margie 2.0.
ELLE: How is your relationship with each other?
DP: I’m probably the only child in the world that goes around insisting that my mother is beyond amazing and the coolest person ever.
MY: I would say that it is the most rewarding experience of my life.
ELLE: What is the best part of your relationship?
DP: The fact that I’m constantly inspired by her as a person everyday.
MY: I believe that the best part has been watching her grow into the mature and caring woman she is today.

ELLE: What does Fendi mean to you?
DP: For me, Fendi means the perfect union of creativity and experimentation within its legacy. Fendi has always represented quality and style.
MY: I have always been a Fendi lover. I have many bags that I bought throughout the years which I preserve with love. I hope I can grow old just like my FENDI bags – wise from experience but never tired nor outdated.
ELLE: Use three words to describe the Peekaboo bag.
DP: Versatile, functional and treasured.
MY: Stylish, and never outdated!
ELLE: Would you define the Peekaboo as timeless? Why?
DP: The peekaboo bag is certainly made for a woman who knows who she is and what she wants. This type of woman does not follow trends, but rather lives in her own way and has her own perspective on the world. The peekaboo is not merely an object of great form and design, but also one of great function and usability. I believe that this bag will certainly remain treasured by independent women who want to change the world and live their lives to the fullest.
MY: It can be used everyday so it grows on you as it takes on a part of your personality. A modern woman does not only shine in her youth. She allows time to add to her wisdom. This bag represents the modern woman.
ELLE: How would you describe yourself? What is a characteristic you have in common with the Peekaboo bag?
DP: Very independent and strong—a resemblance that I see in the Peekaboo bag.
MY: I like to try new things but at the same time, somehow, I remain faithful to my habits. I believe I share this characteristic with the Peekaboo as it’s a bag which never goes out of trend and reinvents itself in every fashion momentum.
ELLE: The Peekaboo is all about secrets. Tell us about the hidden you.
DP: I’m not a woman of secrets. I like to share everything about me with the people I love. That’s probably my secret—not having any.
MY: As I grow, I have allowed every experience to stay with me. Are these secrets or just living?
ELLE: Tell us about Hong Kong. Why it is so inspiring to you?
DP: Hong Kong never stops–the city and the people are dynamic and energetic and so full of untapped talent. I am constantly surprised by the evolution of this city!
MY: Hong Kong is my hometown. I’m just in love with this city. I believe that everything about it is inspiring, constantly evolving and changing for the better.
