A whirlwind week is now only a few hours away; Lakme Fashion Week will open with designer Gaurav Gupta showcasing his Summer/Resort ‘19 collection at The Royal Opera House in Mumbai. Titled ‘The (Un)folding’, his collection fuses the grace of handwoven fabrics with Gupta’s stellar patternmaking, for maximum impact.
Here’s what to watch for:
Lucknawi Chikankari makes an appearance–a first for the label–transformed into demi-couture dresses.
The collection is dipped in basanti, a very specific tone of yellow that is evocative of sunlit spring.

Beautiful Benarasi brocades have been moulded into deconstructed legengas.
Gupta’s vision of modern Indian design leans heavily on tradition; zardozi, chikankari and brocade have been used to highlight the designer’s fondness for origami-folding and fluid-structural construction.
