Amit Aggarwal stretched the bindi in unimaginable ways last night at AIFW, at the debut of his ready to wear label AM:IT. He used the remains of the laser cut bindi sheets in his clothes, and added texture in unexpected ways. (In fact, upcycling was a running theme at Abraham & Thakore too.)
Aggarwal knows his way around sculptural outfits. This time, we saw dresses that were almost mirror images of themselves. The paint splatters, kaleidoscopic prints, colour-soaked puff sleeves and structured mesh all heightened the drama.
If the oversized jackets and asymmetrical layers embellished with metallic panels gave the collection a futuristic dimension, then the ikat weaves (that formed the base) gave it a traditional spin.
