Most runway shows play out the same. If you’re terribly jaded, the only element of surprise is often just the showstopper. Occasionally, a designer will make you sit up and take note, like Anand Kabra. Who held an intimate, off-site presentation on the 38th floor of Palladium Hotel, Mumbai, where Lakme Fashion Week is currently underway. Far from the chaos of street style photographers and the throng of fashion bloggers.
It allowed you to take a closer look at the iridescent lace, handcrafted in Kabra’s Hyderabad studio with incense sticks, he tells us. The dull-gold zardosi was complemented by saturated hues of red and green. We particularly loved the ivory lace jackets. And the scalloped lace pants, which you must’ve spotted on our Insta feed. We couldn’t imagine a quick two-minute turn on the ramp doing any justice to these pieces.
As for the obligatory showstopper? Not that we were missing any – but we had two. Actors Aditi Rao Hydari and Jacqueline Fernandez wore two of Kabra’s strongest looks.
