This luxurious hair revival ritual has been upgraded with a super relaxing scalp detox. The scalp massage (with a grainy scrub) was followed by a quick rinse, moisturising hair mask and another stress-relieving massage. With a thermal pillow on my shoulders and a hot towel wrapped around my head, I could have been in a spa getting a de-stress rub-down. Another rinse and blow-dry later, the stylist finished the treatment with a few spritzes of the Chronologiste Fragrant Oil. Not only did my head feel lighter, my hair looked and smelled great too. My hair is like a black hole of moisture, and yet somehow the prospect of an oil-based hydrating treatment sounded uninvitingly greasy. Not the case. The treatment included a wash, deep-conditioning mask, a massage, a steam, re-rinse and was finished with a light leave-in. The micro-oil, I’m told, is formulated to evaporate so it doesn’t leave grease — and it didn’t. How much it really moisturised my hair, I’m not sure (they do recommend multiple sessions for longer-lasting results). I had a good hair day for an evening — that’s one evening more than I usually have. I’ll take it. – Cheryl-Ann Couto

If you’ve been waging a life-long battle with the natural state of your hair, call in the heavyweights and prepare for a big change. L’Oréal Professionel’s X-Tenso Moisturist range of pro-keratin services will zap all the frizz, kinks and waves and leave your hair shiny, smooth and, in my experience, a bit disconcertingly flat. I opted for the smoothening treatment (they also have straightening and bonding). My untreated, uncoloured hair which is a little over shoulder length took about four hours of submitting to two shampoos, two masks, a blow dry and a session with the flat iron. By the end, it looked unrecognisably tame. Styling is as simple as wash and go. But I do miss the volume. – Deepa Menon
