#ELLETriesIt : Detoxifying massages
Tackle fatigue and the effects of stress with these purifying treatments
The ELLE team heads out to five spas across Mumbai to test out their detoxifying treatments and whether they help do away with our tired bones.
AROMA NODAL MASSAGE
The Lowdown: It started with my feet, moved its way up my legs, lingered on my back and came to a wonderful end at the nape of my neck. But before the actual kneading, I was sent to the steam room to loosen up and well, get sweaty. This opens pores and allows skin to absorb the oil (you can choose from a variety), and that’s the best part of this massage – the aromatic, effective products.
The Results: On my way out, the masseuse told me to give it four hours before I really “feel it”. She was right. Later that evening, my body felt lighter, my dry skin turned moist and I enjoyed a night of deep, sound sleep.
The Details: Rs 6,000 (plus taxes) for 60–90 minutes.

DETOXIFIRMING BODY THERAPY
The Lowdown: The massage therapist started me off with a very vigorous brush-down using an exfoliating balm, which felt like dry sand and is definitely not for the sensitive skinned. Once she’d sloughed off every notion of dryness, I had a quick shower and came back for the most luxurious and relaxing massage I’ve ever had. I fell asleep.
The Results: Simple and effective, this is the only post-party treatment you need. Hardcore exfoliation makes the massage oil really sink in, and I felt like I’d grown a new layer of skin. I walked out lighter, absolutely peaches.
The Details: Rs 10,000 (plus taxes) for 90 minutes.

RENE FURTERER RELAXING PROGRAM
The Lowdown: It kicked off with a gentle, slumber-inducing scalp massage using a hairbrush. Just before I drifted into a daze, icy cool mint-and-eucalyptus-infused Rene Furterer Astera ampoules were applied to my scalp, while the strands got a dose of Karité oil. A little steam helped the products set in before they were rinsed off with a minty shampoo for the scalp and a milk-rich shampoo for my parched strands. A mask for frizz, a serum to prevent hair loss and we were done.
The Results: So this is what it means to be light-headed. I left with a nourished mop of hair that behaved for days.
The Details: Rs 2,000 for 90 minutes.

DEEP MARINE FACIAL
The Lowdown: This one is a boon for the over-stressed, tired skin of a city girl. After a thorough cleanse, scrub and facial massage, the therapist used lymphatic and nerve point techniques to remove toxins from my skin. (Disclaimer: This can be a bit painful). A marine mask followed and the treatment wrapped up with a hydrating serum, eye cream and day cream.
The Results: My skin felt plumped up and bright, minus any puffiness. The facial was deeply hydrating and it reduced the uneven texture of my skin.
The Details: Rs 4,900 (plus taxes) for 90 minutes.
