Make-up is all about getting that base right – and annoyingly, that’s also not the easiest thing in the world. Maybelline New York’s official make-up artist, Elton J Fernandez lends a helping hand and cracks the code to flawless foundation, one swatch at a time.
ELLE: How should one zero-in on the correct foundation shade?
Elton J Fernandez: Swatch a shade of foundation on your jawline with a gentle hand. If the colour disappears into your skin, it’s the right shade for you.
ELLE: What about texture?
EJF: Different skin types have different needs, like drier skin requires more emollient-based products than others. If you’re faced with dry climate, liquid foundations that turn to matte on application are ideal. For humid cities, it’s best to wear fewer layers of make-up. Try the Maybelline New York Fit Me! Compact – it has a light, smooth texture with a natural finish.
ELLE: What’s the best way to apply foundation?
EJF: Take a pump of foundation on your pointer finger and swipe it under both your eyes for thick coverage. Wipe the remaining foundation onto your forehead and with a round brush, blend the foundation outwards till you cover your face.
