Emma Watson has much to celebrate. Not only does the English actress have a flourishing career, but she recently completed her degree at Brown University and has just been chosen as the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. Pretty impressive for a 24-year-old.
Watson describes women’s rights as an extremely personal cause and one that’s inextricably linked to who she is. “The chance to make a real difference is not an opportunity that everyone is given and is one I have no intention of taking lightly,” she said of her new role.
The actress joins the ranks of stalwarts like Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron and Drew Barrymore, who have previously served as UN spokespeople. As expected, the UN website crashed under heavy traffic following the announcement. And what was Watson’s first step? The actress uploaded her UN ambassador poster photo on her Instagram account!
