Naushad Ali first came into the limelight after he won the sustainable category at Lakme Fashion Week back in 2017. Fast-forward to 2019, the designer showcased at the International Fashion Showcase at London Fashion Week 2019 and also took home the prize for best designer in the sustainable category at the R-Elan ELLE Graduates 2019 in March this year.
After graduating from NIFT Chennai, Ali worked in the fashion industry for a while, until his journey took him to Auroville. In 2014, the designer then set up Studio Liam, through which he created his own label—one that celebrated the confluence of age-old knowledge and Indian craft traditions with modern cuts of today. Minimalistic silhouettes that seamlessly bring together the old with the new, his motto to revisit to adapt, rather than add, has remained unchanged since its conception.
Working with weavers across the country and developing new fabrics, the Puducherry-based label extensively works with looms in West Bengal. Sustainability at its prime, Naushad Ali operates on a zero-waste policy and works towards the economic sustainability of handloom weaving.
Celebrating the 146th birthday of the original blue jean with Levi’s denims, Naushad Ali will give shape to Levi’s’ sustainability philosophy through a special art installation. Built on the values of authenticity, equality and sustainability, 501 Day, along with Ali, will celebrate the greener future of fashion.
