Exclusive: Bombay Electric x Selfridges get 5 designers to create limited edition saris

For 10 weeks starting this month, Selfridges  – yes, the Oxford Street flagship in London – is hosting a pop-up featuring Bombay Electric.

There are a host of Indian designers that the store has taken to London: like Riddhika Jesrani, Miuniku, péro, and Rashmi Varma. But a definite highlight are the limited edition saris created by five major designers – Mary Katrantzou, Roksanda Ilincic, Peter Pilotto, Mawi and Nicholas Kirkwood.

“I’ve loved styling the saris with a crisp white shirt, sequin jacket or bomber jacket,” says Bombay Electric founder Priya Kishore. “I like the sweeping colours of the Roksanda, with echoes of Rothko – one of my favourite artists. The colours of the Peter Pilotto sari and the graphic prints are divine; I wore it to dance the night away last week! The Mawi sari has been a favourite with the London audience, while the Mary Katrantzou is popular with collectors. The minimal, yet distinctive Nicholas Kirkwood sari looks super progressive.”

The collaborations started to take shape in April, and have resulted in 10 limited saris by each designer. They are available in Mumbai and London, and the rare piece will set you back by only Rs 69,000. Sweet!
