12 surprising celebrity friendships
Girl power, in packs of two

Kim Kardashian and Chrissy Teigen
Chrissy Teigen is very much a part of the Kardashian inner circle, with the Kween bee Kim being her closest friend. The two bonded over Kim wearing Spanx out, of all the things. Chrissy had been a fan of Kim long before she met her and when she discovered that Kim was in fact a regular (ish) human being (the Spanx probably helped here).
The model and everyone’s favourite celebrity on Twitter said that she and Kim have become even closer after becoming moms and if their collective social media mentions of each other is anything to go by, then they sure have.

Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston
Rachel and Monica are F.R.I.E.N.D.S in real life too. Courteney and Jen remained close friends ever since the show ended. They’ve always been supportive of each other and have reportedly been a part of all the big moments in each other’s lives. Courtney was Jennifer’s maid of honour when she married Justin Theoux and Jennifer is the godmother of Courteney’s daughter, Coco.
Courteney was also very vocal in expressing her displeasure at Jennifer being dragged into the limelight by the media after the Brangelina split.

Lena Dunham and Amy Schumer
Lena recalled auditioning Amy for a part in Girls, while interviewing her for the Lenny Letter and the impact Amy had despite not being selected for the role. She was so memorable that Lena asked her to come back a year later for another role that suited her more. Their friendship grew because of their mutual respect and adoration for each other’s work and Lena was one of the first people Amy discussed her ideas for Inside Amy Schumer with.

Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell
The OG supermodel BFFs have been friends for the past 27 years and are still going strong. In a letter that Naomi wrote for Kate Moss’ 40th birthday, she described their crazy antics together and how Kate’s fashion sense didn’t exactly work for her, “We were like sisters. Kate was cool, stylish. She’d sometimes tell us how to dress — “You need to be a bit more funky and downbeat,” she’d say. On her advice I once wore Adidas sneakers with a Galliano dress, which in retrospect was an appalling faux pas. I realised that Kate Moss could get away with things that the rest of us couldn’t.”

Sania Mirza and Parineeti Chopra
The friendship between Parineeti and Sania began because of a misunderstanding. When the tennis star was asked which Bollywood actor she would like to cast in her biopic, Sania said that since Deepika Padukone was busy all the time, maybe Parineeti should play the role, not intending it to sound as snarky as it appeared in print the following day. She called Parineeti to explain and apologize and thus began a friendship that would give us #SquadGoals in the days to come.

Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz
Salma and Penelope were friends long before they became famous, often being mistaken for each other too. The two call each other ‘eggs’ (because they’re both lazy) and shared a near-death experience that brought them closer. Salma revealed that while shooting for their first film together, a plane carrying them almost crashed and the only thought in her head was that even though she is going to die, at least she would do it with her best friend. Penelope’s reaction to almost dying was to drag Salma to the nearest bar to get drunk the moment they landed.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler
Two of the biggest names in comedy right now, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have been friends for the past two decades. They have worked together on Saturday Night Live, starred (and wrote, in Tina’s case) their own TV shows for the same network and then came back to work on two movies together. They also hosted the Golden Globes in 2013 and went on to do it again for the next two years. Amy has said that Tina is more like a sister to her than a friend and the pair has made a pact that they will force their kids to marry each other (Amy has two boys, and Tina has two girls).

Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid
Perhaps their reality TV connection and their successful forays into modelling brought Kendall and Gigi closer together in a friendship that's made for Instagram. The two even have a matching tattoos. They're both at the very top of the highest paid models list and have become a regular fixture of the annual pink explosion that is less popularly known as the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone
The fact that two of the 2016's favourite celebrities are good friends in real life is one of the best things about the universe, after thug cat videos and cake. They were introduced to each other by common friend/co-star Woody Harrelson and the rest, as they say, is internet gold.
Lawrence told Vanity Fair that Stone had texted her first, saying that she got her number from Woody and she had replied “Fuck off!” They have been friends ever since.
Stone admitted that her ego took a big hit when she first started speaking to Lawrence and realized how talented the Hunger Games actress was, until she remembered that there was enough room for both of them, “I chilled the fuck out—and remembered we’re completely different and there is room for everyone, even if it’s an industry that doesn’t really seem to support that idea up front.”

Sonam Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandez
They’re often seen slaying red carpets with their fashion choices, their latest outing being a twin fest in Yanina Couture. Jacqueline is a regular feature on Sonam’s Snapchat, and they’ve both confessed to being each other’s 3 AM friends. They met at the screening of Sonam’s Mausam (2011) and, according to Jacqueline, got along from the moment they first spoke to each other. Rumours of them fighting for the same roles started circulating soon, but Jacqueline dismissed them in an interview with Times of India saying that, “Sonam and I are competitive people, but we are not insecure.”

Rihanna and Katy Perry
The story of how Rihanna and Katy Perry became friends is the sweetest and would possibly make your best friend look like a monster in comparison to Rihanna. The first time they met, Katy complemented Rihanna on her studded Valentino bag and Rihanna offered to send her one as well. Katy dismissed this as an empty promise and moved on. But after a few days she received a package from Rihanna with the same Valentino bag and so, a beautiful friendship was formed.
They have stood by each other through all their respective relationship dramas and the media circus that followed but had a brief falling out in 2013, when Rihanna got back together with abusive ex Chris Brown.

Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria
Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria bonded over fashion and their shared sense of humour when they met in Los Angeles over a decade ago and have been BFFs ever since. Eva claims their shared life lessons to be the reason why they are so close. She flew to London to be with Victoria when she opened her new clothing store and even to Marrakech, Morocco, to celebrate David Beckham’s birthday. The former Spice Girl stood by Eva's side when she was going through a divorce with then husband Tony Parker, even designing Eva’s wedding dress when she recently married Jose Baston.

Two successful women, who belong to the same field, can be friends with each other. Two successful women, who have different careers, can still be friends with each other. Repeat this to yourself 10 times every morning, because the sensational headlines you'll find in newspapers could trick you into believing otherwise.
Pitting women against each other, especially in matters of the heart, is a cheap thrill we're all guilty of. A shady comment some actress passes about her ex-boyfriend’s current girlfriend, who also happens to be a star, makes for a juicer headline than any uplifting quote she may have offered.
We are conditioned to compete with other women. That’s what we’ve seen in movies, read in newspapers and then follow in our everyday relationships.
But there are examples of female camaraderie that are beacons of hope in a sea of drivel. These women are wildly successful in their respective fields and still maintain a healthy friendship. To celebrate this, we’ve rounded up (in the gallery above) 12 pairs of celebrities who haven't let their work or public opinion affect their relationship.
