First look: am:pm for Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2015

Siyāh, the collection by am:pm is inspired by the Mughal era – the architecture and craft of the time inspired Ankur and Priyanka Modi most. “The architectural inspiration came from the Islamic influence of that era. For the craft we went to a place in Punjab called Hoshiarpur, and worked with the wood (sheesham or black wood) inlay that they specialise in. You’ll see the inlay referenced in the embroidery work we’ve done,” says Modi. The collection includes anarkali jackets, layered skirts and nazakat dhotis.

The fabrics
The duo have made use of silk organza, heavy georgettes and hints of satin.

The colours
Black and ivory dominate the collection. “We have one more colour that breaks the black colourway…but let that be a surprise”, says Modi.

The details
Lots of details – thread embroideries, beaten mukaish work and floral and geometric inlay details.
