First look: Gaurav Gupta’s Androgyny

After a stunning Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2015 finale, Gaurav Gupta is back to give us more conversation-starting pieces. He’s returning to his signature androgynous vibe, and introducing a small edit of power suits, pinstripe tuxedos, asymmetric zippered jackets, frock coats and circular cut trousers. “It’s sharp tailoring but a bit twisted keeping it modern and a bit grunge,” says Gupta. Why the return to gender-blurring garments? “Androgyny is a part of modern day culture. It is an emotional approach…to show women as powerful, strong, desirable and to blur boundaries between the sexes.”

Model and actor Lisa Haydon plays the perfect muse, and features in his new campaign too. “She is tall, sassy, sexy; she’s a strong, compassionate woman who can easily play dress up to look like a man so effortlessly and still be every bit woman,” Gupta adds.

Ultimately, he hopes to get a dialogue started around #AlterYourEgo – “We should all alter our ego from time to time, that’s what [leads to] sparks and new conversations.” Chime in, then?

Androgyny is priced between Rs 8,000 and Rs 80,000. Available at Gaurav Gupta Studio, 52-56, VB Gandhi Marg, Kala Ghoda, Fort, Mumbai. Tel: 022 2269 3433
