The queen of prints Masaba, is back! “This season I’ve tried to find different techniques of rendering where we’ve used methods that (painters like) Tyeb Mehta, SH Raza and MF Husain have used. We tried to create canvases where each garment looked like a painting,” says Masaba Gupta about her newest collection to be featured at Lakmé Fashion Week on August 29. “This time around I’ve picked the motif of a horse and created prints around that,” adds Gupta. Looks like the horse in all its elegance and power will be taking over the runway. But that aside the Gupta promises her collection will also have elements of playfulness and fun.
The collection
Expect modern silhouettes: the all-new pinafore sari, pantsuits, off-shoulder garments. The silhouettes are very wearable.
The fabrics
Only two fabrics were used: poplin (used for the slightly structured, stiffer garments) and habotai silk (used for the more free-flowing ones).
The colour
The designer’s palette has reds, white, black and yellows, mainly against a washed charcoal background.
