Geek speak with Kumail Nanjiani
The star of new programmer comedy Silicon Valley on how geeks talk dirty
Silicon Valley > The Big Bang Theory because: The characters here are real people. We’ve stayed away from stereotypes and caricatures, and that’s what I hope people will like.
Your character Dinesh is: Sort of similar to me. He has a lot of insecurities, but he wants to be cool, and he wants people to think he’s cool.
Silicon Valley makes you smarter (sort of) because: I actually learnt quite a lot about how programmes are created. I mean, I couldn’t do them, at all, but now I see what their architecture is.
IRL Friday nights in Silicon Valley are all about: Game jams. I have some friends who are video game programmers and they organise these. They basically stay at home to code video games.
A tech invention you’d like to see: I wish you could take back texts and emails you regret sending. I could really use an undo button. It’s so simple. Why doesn’t it exist?
When geeks talk dirty: They brag about how good they are at JAVA programming.
