Big news coming in from Delhi-based designer duo Hemant and Nandita. From September (date to be announced shortly) the label will be available at American retail giant Neiman Marcus.
“It’s overwhelming when you get appreciated for the work you do; and when it’s a store like Neiman Marcus, that doubles the motivation,” says Nandita Garg. “It is great that the sensibilities of Indian designers are now being appreciated globally. We are really excited to see the response to our collection now. It will definitely give us a bigger global presence.”
Talking about the edit for Neiman Marcus Garg reveals it’s an extension of their Kashmir-inspired collection. “We had developed a print based on fine Kashmiri embroidery – the kind spotted on shawls. The embroidery in the line is also similar. We have capes in mulmul and cotton, which can be paired with almost everything, be it denims, formal black pants or dresses; there’s easy, extremely comfortable tunics. We’ve also got oversized, shirt-like kaftans, which, again, have an easy vibe.” The entire edit is hand-washable, pretty low-maintenance.
