JLo and Shakira stormed the Super Bowl halftime show stage, bringing never-seen-before Latina force with a performance for the world to remember. The two powerhouses seamlessly changed multiple outfits onstage, conveying more than just the painstaking planning behind them; it was a message of inclusion and sisterhood. The “Jenny From The Block” singer opened her performance with a custom black leather bodysuit and a soft-sheen-pink satin skirt and vintage chains, handcrafted in the Versace Atelier over 900 hours. The pink skirt then gave way to the studded leather chaps underneath when JLo was singing “Get Right”, making more than just fashion statements with her outfits. Each of JLo’s outfits were designed by Versace.
After the all-black leather bodysuit, JLo revealed her silver encrusted bodysuit while performing “Waiting for Tonight”. The mirror jewels on her bodysuit were 12,000 silver sequins and 15,000 Swarovski crystals, a labour of 700 hours of work. She paired it with matching gloves and ankle boots. If that has left your jaws on the floor, you probably didn’t see her feathered cape when her 11 year-old daughter Emme took the stage with the proud mama to perform a mellower “Let’s Get Loud”. Also a Versace creation, the cape was a reversible one, with the American flag on one side, and the Puerto Rican flag on the other.
What may have eluded your sight while you were entranced by the throat-catching performance was her matching shattered-glass manicure to go with her silver mosaic bodysuit. Celebrity nail artist Tom Bachik designed the manicure in a medium-length, tapered square shape and strategically placed Swarovski crystals of different sizes to echo her outfit. He also designed her manicure for the after-party with a gold, pink, and white design and Swarovski crystals.
Sharing the stage with her, Shakira wore a red two-piece Swarovski embellished number with matching knee-high boots and cuffs, all Peter Dundas. Oh, and that gold-and-silver look JLo and Shakira have us swooning over? Also Peter Dundas. Shakira’s golden two-piece set with a golden bomber and golden Adidas sneakers, and JLo’s silver bodysuit was now layered with a silver, fringed salsa suit with silver embellished tights and silver gloves was a metallic moment that defined their sisterhood like no other.
JLo’s makeup for the performance couldn’t be your run-of-the-mill foundation-highlighter-bronzer job. While her performance may have lasted for 10 minutes, the glam took all of 10 hours. Her long-term makeup artist Scott Barnes created a smoky eye, nude gloss lip, and bronzed look that brings out all of her already-perfect features.
