Here’s how prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle
During a BBC interview, the Suits actress described the moment as 'an amazing surprise'
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have opened up about the moment they got engaged, and it sounds like it was the perfect proposal.
The couple were speaking to the BBC after they announced their engagement and plans to marry in spring 2018.
Markle told the BBC’s Mishal Husain that the proposal was ‘very romantic’. And yes, the royal did get down on one knee to pop the question.
Prince Harry said he proposed earlier in November during a ‘standard, typical night for us’ at his Nottingham Cottage home as the couple were making roast chicken.
‘It was just an amazing surprise. It was so sweet, and natural and very romantic,’ Markle said.
Prince Harry added: ‘She didn’t even let me finish. She said “Can I say yes”. Then there were hugs and I had the ring in my finger. I was like “Can I give you the ring”. It was a really nice moment. Just the two of us… I think I managed to catch her by surprise as well’.
The couple also confirmed that they met around a year and a half ago through a mutual friend. ‘It was definitely a set up, it was a blind date,’ said Meghan.
‘We met for a drink and very quickly we said “what are we doing tomorrow?”‘ Harry added.
Speaking about the engagement ring, Harry explained that he chose a yellow gold band as that’s Markle’s ‘favourite’. He also used two diamonds from Princess Diana’s jewellery collection, ‘to make sure she’s with us on this crazy journey together’.
When asked what his late mother would feel about the engagement news, Harry said she would be ‘over the moon jumping up and down, so excited for me’.
‘It’s days like today when I really miss having her around but with the ring and everything else that’s going on, I’m sure she’s with us, jumping up and down somewhere,’ he said.
He added that he believed Markle and his mother would have been ‘thick as thieves… best friends’.
