Planning a wedding may be hectic, but you definitely don’t want to leave the honeymoon at the bottom of your to-do list. You don’t want to be presented with the Herculean task of packing outfit options for formal dinners, the poolside, casual sightseeing and, of course, oodles of sexy nightwear without any preparation.
Celebrity stylist Tanya Ghavri may have some answers though. The 30-year-old is currently curating the Honeymoon Trunk Show, which has Label Ritu Kumar, Cord, Deme by Gabriella, Kanika Goyal and Verandah among others to help you with vacation prep.
Her rule of thumb for honeymoon packing? “Always, always pack less than you need to. You need to account for shopping at your holiday destination, which can work out to quite a bit,” says Tanya.
If you are looking for style inspiration, she recommends taking notes from Katrina Kaif in Baar Baar Dekho. “Her honeymoon wardrobe was a breezy mix of crochet tops, fringe jackets and denim shorts,” she explains. “The light layering means you’ll have fun mixing and matching, and yet have enough leeway and comfort for a day of sightseeing and other energetic activities!”
So how do you go about packing your honeymoon suitcase without bleeding your de-monetised bank account dry? Tanya helps us break it down into two simple categories:
WHAT TO SPEND ON:
Lingerie and swimwear
Never compromise on quality when it comes to innerwear. Your honeymoon is the most romantic trip of your lifetime, and you want to make sure you look the part.
Statement heels and jacket
Buy just one of each, but make sure it’s a head-turner. Instead of packing a dozen different ensembles, a basic white tee and clever co-ordinating will easily take your outfit from day to night.
Statement accessory
Again, you are allowed just one. Decide on whether you want it to be a statement cocktail ring or an eye-catching pair of earrings, but invest in one and find interesting ways to make it work for your entire wardrobe.
WHAT TO SAVE ON:
Cocktail dresses
A couple of denim shorts and breezy tops or easy-to-wear maxis (think Alia Bhatt from Dear Zindagi) will hit the right mix of flirty yet practical.
Bags
No, you do not need to colour coordinate with each ensemble. Choose a tote or a tan sling bag that’ll complement every outfit and help you save on precious space in your suitcase.
Shoes
Armed with your statement heels, you just need to add one more pair of espadrilles to your bag for long walks during the day.
