The winter menu at this fun Asian joint hits the sweet spot

The super fun contemporary Asian restaurant introduces a neatly curated winter menu. It’s been hammered out by Chef Vikram Khatri, who’s given us Japanese cuisine beyond sushi. Working our way through the new menu, we found a comforting clear chicken soup served with miniature root vegetables and chicken. The light and crunchy soft-shell crab appetiser was melt-in-your-mouth good; a tempura style dish, it was accompanied by a sharp wasabi mayo (just the way we like it). The beetroot and plump avocado tartar was a surprise. Who knew slow cooked beetroot could be so divine? Top that with sakura flowers, and you essentially have Guppy’s star dish. And we never thought we’d say this, but we rather like tofu after we tried the tofu with water chestnuts, with its delicate flavours. Try as you might, you can’t turn away from Guppy staples – sushi rolls. Don’t miss the black rice salmon rolls – the organic rice sourced from north east India, gives it a unique texture.
