Bored of the bright office lights and your computer screen? If you’re working near Hauz Khas Village in Delhi, you’re in luck. Social, a new café and bar with industrial-finish décor (think bare walls, skeletal lamps and repurposed colonial furniture), has everything an office has – a boardroom, conference facilities and high-speed Wi-Fi. Only, it’s much cooler.
The casual fun-dining space serves up quirky dishes like Enthu Cutlet Bao, Awesomosas and Shawarma, and Yo Mama served on gramophone records. Social, which first opened doors in Bengaluru, aims to be a workplace-meets-café hybrid.
“Hauz Khas is a hub for creative minds, from artists and writers to architects and curators. Coffee shops and cafés have been projected as your ‘third place’ – a place away from home and work/college. With Social, for the very first time in restaurant history, we’ve introduced the ‘second place’ concept, a place where you can both work and play,” explains Riyaaz Amlani, CEO and MD, Impresario Handmade Restaurants.
It also has an app that lets you order and review food, check out the restaurant’s playlist (to like and recommend music), and even check in on what other guests in the space are up to. And once the sun sets, Social turns into a high-energy bar that serves drinks like the Deconstructed Moscow Mule in a mule mug, with a beaker tied up in muslin cloth, with smoked vodka and a pipette with bitters. Or the Reaction, which is served in a glass beaker, with a syringe full of vodka and Blue Curaçao. The lines between work and play just got a whole lot blurry.
