Hot address: The Sassy Spoon

The Sassy Spoon is bringing you an Alain Ducasse-approved menu. (No really, he vetted this.) The Good France (or Goût de France) initiative will celebrate French gastronomy around the world. Almost 1,000 chefs are expected to join in on March 19 – allowing diners all over the globe to simultaneously savour the good ol’ buttery dishes the cuisine is famous for.

We tried the seven course degustation menu at The Sassy Spoon, which kicks off with a delightful amuse-bouche: blue cheese porcini cracker with mushroom and roasted almond pâté. Next up was mousseline of chicken liver, prosseco jelly, poached pear and toasted brioche – where the sweetness of the pear neatly cut through the dense mousseline.

The artichoke soup that followed was intensely comforting. It was topped with wisps of fried artichokes, chia seeds, and a dollop of crème fraiche (ask for seconds!). Our other favourite was the Bombay Duck, where a crumbly-soft batter fried fish arrived on a bed of wild rice pilaf, spiced shrimps and a rich tomato-dill sauce. To this fast-expanding list of must-haves we added the grilled quail with bite-sized quail eggs topped in choron sauce.

The gooey dessert was hit too. Pouring hot chocolate over the mousse and watching it collapse into a bubbly mess is only half the fun. Walking away with a winning meal – where you love more than four whole courses – is even better.

The menu is priced between Rs 1,650 (not including alcohol or taxes) and Rs 5,000 (including alcohol, taxes as applicable).

The Sassy Spoon will be celebrating French Week with the Good France menu from March 20 to 27 March. Ground Floor, Express Towers, Ramnath Goenka Marg, Nariman Point, Mumbai. Tel: 022 2288 8222. Thesassyspoon.in
