According to a recent poll conducted by the National Sleep Foundation, 65 percent of people know that a good night’s rest is crucial to being productive and feeling well. And yet only 10 percent of us know how to sleep well. As with diet and fitness routines, it’s all too easy to slack on sleep. Most people need between seven and nine hours of sleep to function effectively. And while that persistent dull headache and fogginess is a common and instantly recognisable by-product of a late night, the long-term consequences can be far worse.

Sleep loss puts you at risk for heart disease, high blood pressure and even diabetes. It’s also been known to kill an individual’s sex drive and chronic insomnia could lead to depression.
