Proving yet again why being a woman in Bollywood is tougher than you think, Ileana D’Cruz recently opened up about the pressure she faced to hide her relationship with Australian photographer Andrew Kneebone in an interview with DNA. According to her handlers, revealing that she was not single might damage her career.
Ileana, who has been open about her relationship on social media, was not having it. “I felt like that was so unfair. Look, when Shahid Kapoor got married, everyone was celebrating and then he had a kid, that was celebrated even more. Why is it such a big deal when it is a woman dating?”
She recalls how she wanted her boyfriend to accompany her to an award ceremony where her movie Barfi had been nominated in multiple categories. “We were discussing going for it, and I for a second, thought about whether we should have separate entries.”
She ultimately decided to do what she wanted and took her boyfriend as her date anyway. “I don’t need to tell them a story of how I met this person. All I need to do is tell him that he is my strength and I want him to be there and I want to be holding his hand. I did, and it felt awesome.”
4 Bollywood couples who keep their relationship on the downlow
Ileana might be clear about whether she wants her relationship to be in the press, but these young couples are determined to keep their fans guessing. And for good reason…
