Kareena Kapoor Khan is the brightest star in the Bollywood galaxy and if you had any doubts about that, take a look at the dipped-in-gold lehenga that was the showstopper garment at the Falguni Shane Peacock couture presentation part of India Couture Week 2018 held in Delhi last evening. The designer couple, who became internationally famous for dressing the likes of pop stars Britney Spears and Beyoncé, doubled down on their winning formula in their new collection, Amour De Junagarh: Swarovski-laden translucent gowns, elaborate feather-festooned saris and lehengas shiny enough to signal Mars.
Choosing for their inspiration Juna Mahal in Rajasthan’s cultural jewel of Junagarh, they set out to craft the most linguistically titillating colour palette we’ve seen on a show note yet: plum purple, dessert dust, pearled ivory, honey peach, lavender fog and burgundy Beaujolais.
Apart from a few questionably placed feathered panels and a stunning lehenga-choli on model Candice Pinto that was sabotaged by the lack of a crinoline (their Parisienne muse would have known better), it was your boilerplate production of bridal hits that we’ll soon be seeing all over Instagram and on Bollywood red carpets.
