We’ve always been excited by Indian names dominating international red carpets whether it’s Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at Cannes Film Festival or Priyanka Chopra at the Oscars. But sometimes, we tend to overlook those who have dominated international red carpet time and time again, with a strong presence at award shows and premieres, even concerts, performing right alongside names like Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez. That’s right, we’re talking about the outfits. Competition isn’t just fierce amongst the actors and actresses, but also amongst Indian designers. With the market flooded with luxury labels from fashion veterans and up-and-comers, it’s always nice when a familiar face from back home stands out in a crowd.
Hollywood’s favourite Indian designers:
Manish Arora
Manish Arora’s colour palette is completely in sync with the vibrancy of India and yet, doesn’t look at all out of place on red carpets anywhere in the world. While Katy Perry has been spotted in more than one of his creations, other actresses have also adopted his designs to make a bold statement. For the past decade, Arora has positioned his label as an international one, opening his flagship store smack in the centre of Paris, and being a regular at Paris Fashion Week.

Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla
Abu-Sandeep aren’t just a favourite with local legends like the Bachchans, they’re also quite a hit with Dame Judi Dench. The actress has been spotted on several occasions wearing customised ensembles by the duo. Carrie Underwood, who seems to be a big fan of Indian designers, also has attended events and performed on stage in their creations. Beyoncé also sexed up one of their garments in her music video with Coldplay.

Gaurav Gupta
We’re used to name-dropping Gaurav Gupta at most award shows in India with his collection of eclectic gowns, but could you spot it out of context? Lady Victoria Hervy, British model and ‘it girl’, is a fan. She’s been spotted on multiple red carpets in Gaurav Gupta creations, even one identical to a risqué number Deepika Padukone had worn.

Alpana and Neeraj
The duo’s OTT designs, combined with their use of unconventional materials, seem to have caught the eye of Nicole Scherzinger, who wore their outfit on X Factor. A similar futuristic design was seen on DJ Miriam Nervo as well as Avengers actress Kat Graham. Lady Gaga was also spotted in one of their creations.

Gauri and Nainika
Gauri and Nainika’s structured gowns seem to be a winning formula for international red carpets. Another favourite of pop star Carrie Underwood, who has not only repped the brand on countless red carpet, but also twice in one night.
