On the company’s blog, co-founder and CEO Kevin Systrom wrote that the social media behemoth is adding the ability to control who comments on posts, better comment filtering, as well as mental health resources, and stickers for “kindness.”
The most exciting feature — controlling who can comment on your posts — is simple to use. Just go to the comments section and click on “Allow Comments From.” From there, you can add specific users to block. (Previously you were only allowed to turn off all comments.)
Another new feature is expanded mental health resources that allow anonymous reporting for live video. That way, users can report when someone looks like might need outside support, as well as access links for resources and a helpline. Systrom writes that Instagram has, “teams working 24 hours a day, seven days a week, around the world to respond.”
Comment filtering will also improve by automatically blocking abusive comments and spam in more languages, including Arabic, French, German, and Portuguese.
Oh, and then there’s the kindness stickers to spread the love.
Systrom ends the blog post with, “Thank you for being on this journey with us, and for taking care of each other.”
