ELLE: Isharya is celebrating its 14th anniversary in August. Why did you wait this long to launch your flagship store?
Gauri Tandon: We have been selling our products online and in multi-designer stores all over the world for years. Recently, we noticed an uptick in sales through our website, so the next logical step was to launch a store. We wanted our 1st retail outlet to be close to our roots, and Bandra, with its hip, eclectic vibe, seemed like the ideal choice.
ELLE: Your design aesthetic is a cool mix of Indian heritage and California chic. Does this vision carry itself over to the store?
GT: It does. The store has been designed by Bill Bensley, and each element follows Isharya’s journey—from the interactive in-house installation, the marble ooring, which has brass inlays with agate detailing, and the antique wall mirrors, which use hand-cut polki mirrors. Both elements feature in our creations.
ELLE: Tell us about The Bombay Deco Collection, which launches with the studio.
Radhika Tandon: This is Isharya’s first rose gold and mirror collection. The pieces are inspired by the sculptural composition of the Art Deco and Jazz movements of Bombay in the ’30s. My favourite piece from the collection is the leather and rose gold-plated mirror choker.
