4 reasons Qatar deserves to be your next holiday getaway

Stay

The St. Regis Doha is located on its own stretch of sand with stunning views of the sea. There’s a gigantic pool, a spa, St. Regis’s signature butler service, and more than enough dining options to make sure you don’t have the same meal twice. Don’t leave without eating at both (yes, both!) of Gordon Ramsay’s in-house restaurants.

Do

Ride across the Qatari dunes with your expert guide on a desert safari at dusk, or go north for a spot of sunset mangrove kayaking (keep a lookout for jumping fish). Whatever you choose to do, excitement levels will be high.

See

Doha’s cultural village of Katara feels like a maze: head in one direction and the narrow lanes open out to courtyards; in the other, they will lead you to the beach. Here, stroll through the gardens, take in the stunning architecture of Katara Masjid, or catch a show at the Amphitheatre or Opera House. The city is relatively small, so you can hop across to the seafront Museum Of Islamic Art too. After browsing the collections, take a stroll down Corniche (the public beach).

Shop

Souq Waqif was once a shore-front bazaar. If you are looking for a blend of heritage and culture, as well as a local spot for a fun night out, this is the place to be. You’ll find everything from clothes and spices to perfumes, scented oils, antiques and even falcons. If you get hungry, there are tonnes of cafes. But what you should really keep your eyes open for are the live food stations, manned by local women; they sell delicious homemade food.
