If you’ve never really thought too deeply about the physical realities of the phrase “rip your heart out,” and if you’d like to keep it that way, you’ll maybe want to skip Jennifer Lawrence’s next movie. Or at least skip the deeply unsettling poster that was just released, in which a sickly, pale J.Law holds out her own recently-gouged heart like she’s offering you a tray of hors d’oeuvres.

mother! is a psychological thriller directed by Lawrence’s rumoured boyfriend Darren Aronofsky (known for such lightweight fare as Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan) in which “a couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.” Lawrence and Javier Bardem seemingly play the couple in question, while Michelle Pfeiffer, Kristen Wiig, Ed Harris, and Domhnall Gleeson also star.
mother! is going to release on October 17, just in time for Halloween.
