Kareena Kapoor Khan: “Women today can do anything they set their minds to”

From being a working woman to being a mother, Kareena Kapoor Khan holds many ‘titles’ to her name, but never has she once allowed those titles to come in the way of her personal growth. Known for her outspoken personality and blunt honesty, Kareena has often done the opposite of what society would have expected her to do — remember when she slammed the media for hounding her about her impending motherhood? — and proudly walked away with it. This time, the actor plays role model to four inspirational women in AND’s Summer ’18 latest video, #ANDiRISE, with one simple yet solid message: No matter who you are, you can rise above life’s challenges and emerge as a confident woman achiever.

“I am a big believer of the fact that women today can do anything they set their minds to. I feel like with each passing year, I see myself doing more and more, and I love it,” says Kareena. “It’s within a woman to rise above everything around her — especially if it’s society’s expectations of her — and to live life to her fullest potential,” says Anita Dongre, chief creative officer of House of Anita Dongre.

The Summer ’18 video features transgender model Anjali Lama, national level paralytic badminton player and entrepreneur, Bharti Gehani, make-up artist Kritika Gill and activist and rapper Sophia Ashraf, all of whom have overcome their personal struggles and empowered themselves to be the best version of themselves. “Their stories will move you, and will make you say, “If they can do this, I can do this too,”” says Anita. “Everyone finds me as an inspiration, but I’m inspired by Bharti, who’s taught me that courage gets you through all of life’s challenges,” she adds.

This philosophy has been embedded in AND’s Summer collection that focusses on dainty floral prints and summery shades like blues and whites. “The collection is about women empowerment and stands for a sense of fashion that is aimed at the everyday working woman. Being a mother, especially a working mother, I feel this range will appeal to women like me who require basic outfits like a classic white shirt and black trousers that take you from a meeting to a dinner,” says Kareena. “The cuts of these outfits are very different to the silhouettes that everyone has seen me wear,” she reveals.

While Anita recommends white pants as a must-have for summer, Kareena calls out a printed floral dress as her go-to pick.
