Fourteen years ago, Kareena Kapoor graced the cover of our December issue for the very first time. Though she had only been acting for two years, her self-confidence and stinging wit had already turned Kareena into an film journalist’s favourite subject. This cover story was no different. Other than learning that her preferred ensemble at the time was the traditional salwar kameez and that Meena Kumari was her favourite actor, here are some of the gems we found.
Kareena’s reaction to competitors
Amisha Patel, the girl who replaced her in Kaho Na Pyaar Hai and scored big with Gadar is Kareena’s pet hate. Kareena refused to go on tour with Amisha, thus forcing organisers to replace the latter. “If she was a bigger star than me, I would have been replaced,” she quipped.
Kareena on choosing directors
“I don’t intend to make David Dhawan kind of films because I don’t identify with that kind of cinema.”
Kareena on Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
I’ve become an international craze now. I can say with conviction that no other heroine could have played Poo the way I did. I still have producers lined up outside my house waiting to sign me for an unheard of sum.
