Kendall Jenner may appear to have it all together, but her Met Gala look is literally hanging by a thread. “The entire gown is made from one piece of string,” says Julia Haart, the La Perla creative director making the model’s dress. “It’s a very strong, very flexible, incredibly thin piece of nylon, and we’ve strung 85,000 crystals onto it. “Aside from her underwear”—a hand-painted black bodice—”that’s it.”
Kendall Jenner’s bold move at the Met Gala
Making the gown took artisans in five cities (Milan, Bologna, Los Angeles, Rome, and New York), plus industrial and chemical engineers. “When I described a one-string gown to my team, I was told it’s not possible,” Haart laughs. “Of course, that just made me want to do it more.”
