Label to know: Asa

Shreya Oza grew up with a keen interest in science, which is borne out by Asa’s experiments with textiles, dyes and design. An exploration into new materials resulted in a popular line of cork and rubber sandals, but simplicity is at the core of her style, and that comes with its own challenges. Oza says, “The combination of handloom fabrics and natural dyes is not an easy one to work with. I have struggled to meet my timelines.” Asa plans to eventually build in-house capabilities for the complete manufacturing process, from spinning yarn to stitching. And among its competitors, the year-old brand counts established names like péro, 11.11/eleven eleven and Bodice. Not bad for a newcomer.
