The newest trend spotted at couture week is the epitome of less is more. That is, less fabric and more of craftsmanship and unmatched precision. After all, it requires a skilled artisan to create a work of art like the naked choli that doesn‘t end up as a wardrobe malfunction.
This bold trend first caught our attention when Manish Malhotra showcased his summer couture ’18 collection in Singapore with Kareena Kapoor Khan as the showstopper, decked in an embellished silver lehenga and a barely-there choli. Less is more — like we said — but this time, it was more abs and even more sass:
Daring and sexy in equal parts, the naked choli transforms your upper body into a dreamy work of art. Feathers, pearls, diamonds… you name it, and the naked choli can pull it off.
The best part about this choli style is that its translucent fabric appears to seamlessly blend in with your skin, making it look like second skin. Take Isabelle Kaif’s example:
In one of her boldest looks so far, Janhvi Kapoor slayed it in this silver embellished naked choli styled with a blue lehenga that she wore for Manish Malhotra’s haute couture 18-19 show. Opting to go sans dupatta added even more sex appeal to the look.
Also seen at the show — naked cholis with intricate embellishment and statement sleeves. Again, no dupattas.
Tarun Tahiliani too showcased the naked choli style at his couture week presentation, complete with a sheer dupatta that added to the glittering choli.
